What to Ask During a Tour of a Licensed Group Home in Florida

Questions to ask the provider/home:

1. Licensing & Monitoring:

   • Is the home licensed by APD?

   • How often does APD (or the assigned regional office) conduct monitoring visits? APD

2. Staffing:

   • What is the staff to resident ratio?

   • Are staff trained in CPR, first aid, and relevant behavioral supports?

3. Support & Activities:

   • What does a typical day look like for residents?

   • What community outings or activities are offered?

4. Behavioral Supports & Medical Needs:

   • How are medical and behavioral needs handled?

   • What happens in case of crisis or emergency?

5. Cost & Funding:

   • Does the home accept individuals funded through APD/ iBudget waiver?

   • Are there any out-of-pocket costs families should expect?

6. Rights & Communication:

   • How are resident’s rights protected?

   • How frequently will they receive updates and how is parent/family communication managed?

7. Redirecting Waitlist/Eligibility:

   • If the person is eligible for APD services but not yet on the waiver, how will placement proceed?

   • What is your waitlist policy?
